Red Barn by Troels Kirk

Forgive me, for I have been lazy" ;-)  Not by the easel, but at updating this blog... Busy preparing a show...

Here's a recent painting of a red barn in the vicinity... I love these unpretentious, simple buildings... and age has a way of adding beauty. The swedish "faluröd" red house paint is a sludge paint that gradually washes off the building, giving all kinds of wonderful tones.

Another painting in the same spirit... A trio of "faluröd"... Very early spring with it's fresh green grass...

Morning, Valhalla

Valhalla was the residence of the ancient nordic gods Thor, Odin etc... It is also the name of a cliff near where I live, with a wonderful view of the lake and rolling hills of dense forest, especially in the late autumn mornings.

In the old times poor people would let their really old relatives either jump or get thrown over the edge, to ease the economy... and the old folks were promised they would go to valhalla for eternity as a reward...

Twins, Blistorp

These siamese twin beech trees grow in a beautiful sheep pasture of lush grass, birches and junipers. They are joined, literally grown together, by the roots and "arms".  The Blistorp area, close to where I live, is a piece of Sweden as it used to be...

Summer, River Holje

Another big canvas... summer by the local River Holje. A good place to go stalking with a dry fly for brown trout, wading through dark amber coloured water in this lush green tunnel of trees is an early summer treat. A fierce winter outside, it has been an equal treat to slowly convert summerly sketches to this painting.

November morning, Sibbarp

Long time no post ;o) Well... a belated happy new year to everyone!

I haven't been idle though (especially since december saw a strong increase in sales, hopefully a sign that the finance crisis is lightening the grip...).

I made a lot of the small ink-and-watercolors for the christmas exhibition, and really enjoyed the simplicity of these small paintings. But the first painting  finished in the new year is this big panoramic of a wonderful valley just north of where I live. I had kept an eye on the valley as there are some spectacular mornings there, with these mists along the river shrouding everything in a silky softness . And in november things were suddenly just right one morning. After two hours of watching, the wonderful, cool morning, it was burnt well into the harddisk of my brain....

Harvest

One more of the christmas show local watercolors. A little ink and watercolor of a simple newly harvested wheat field outside Näsum where I live. I love to paint these quiet almost unicolored scenes of nothing, really.

Näsum Church

Sorry for not posting for a long time... doesn't reflect the hectic activity here... I've been finishing all these smal ink-and-watercolors for the christmas show...
Another sample from that collection, and very christmassy, is this little one of the local church in a dark, late autumn/early winter morning light. No snow yet to reflect some light.... just the bare soil with it's wonderful browns.
